📢 TSHE, in collaboration with ThaiHealth and partners, unveils research on microplastics and advances policy recommendations for Thailand
The Thai Society of Higher Education Institutes on the Environment (TSHE), in collaboration with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) and partner organizations, successfully organized an academic forum titled:
“Impacts of Microplastics on the Environment and Human Health and Policy Recommendations for Microplastic Management in Thailand”
on 27 April 2026 at TK Palace Hotel & Convention, Bangkok.
🔬 The event presented key findings from research conducted in the Bang Pakong estuary, a critical case study area in Thailand. The results revealed the widespread presence of microplastics in:
🌊 seawater
🪨 sediments
🐟 aquatic organisms
🧂 and even table salt
Notably, microplastics were detected in more than 80% of human samples from local communities, highlighting that exposure has already become part of everyday life.
⚠️ The study also highlighted:
- Significant gaps in public awareness and understanding of microplastics
- Limitations in Thailand’s waste management system, particularly at the source level
- Strong linkages between microplastic contamination, food safety, and human health risks
💡 The forum brought together experts from academia, government agencies, and relevant sectors to exchange perspectives and collaboratively develop
practical policy recommendations for more effective and sustainable microplastic management in Thailand.
✨ This event marks an important step in
translating scientific research into actionable policy,
aiming to strengthen national capacity in addressing microplastic pollution and safeguarding public health in the long term.
📸 TSHE is pleased to share highlights and photos from the event, reflecting strong collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders working together to tackle one of today’s most pressing environmental challenges.
